The Muslim Youth League staged a protest at Manjeri Medical College Hospital on Saturday. They condemned police action against temporary employees charged for protesting during Health Minister Veena George’s recent visit. Several protesters were arrested after raising slogans against the Minister and the hospital principal.
The case against the employees was filed after their protest allegedly caused a commotion and posed a risk of unrest. It followed a complaint from Medical College Principal Dr K K Anil Raj, who named identifiable contract employees working under the HDIC. The incident took place on Tuesday when the Minister arrived to inaugurate new projects at the hospital. Nurses, nursing assistants, X-ray technicians, cleaning staff and other temporary workers directly approached the minister to complain about not receiving their salaries for two months.
